Modular packet-aware data access switches
Gigamon’s GigaVUE® range of products are modular packet-aware Data Access Switches supporting 10/100/1000 & 10Gig Ethernet. GigaVUE aggregates, multicasts, filters, and divides traffic flows across multiple passive monitoring tools. It is a purpose built hardware switch capable of full line rate performance and transfer latency of only 6 µsec. Nearly any number of traffic sources may be aggregated, filtered and then distributed to one or more monitoring tools at any supported speed. Hardware filters based on any element in the 126-byte header may be enabled to eliminate unwanted packets. The system is managed remotely by telnet or SSH2 & authenticated with TACAC+ or RADIUS.
A Data Access Network is a "Data Socket" for monitoring tools, where adds, changes and moves can be executed at anytime without physical changes to the production network. Aggregation and multicasting allow consolidation of expensive tools and sharing of SPAN ports and taps. Speed changes and media conversion are easily accommodated.
Network traffic can be "mapped" using multi-rule filters such that data aggregated from multiple switches or taps can be redistributed to multiple load-sharing monitoring tools, with each tool analyzing a specific VLAN range, port number or IP subnet, thereby performing comprehensive monitoring without oversubscribing any single tool.
